The fight for the inaugural $1 million Showdown at Caulfield in April has become clearer with 1525 VOBIS Sires eligible yearlings still in the race.
1525 yearlings who are the progeny Victorian sires signed up to VOBIS Sires in 2015 have been nominated to Super VOBIS. The owners of these yearlings must finalise their Showdown entry by signing their horse up to VOBIS Gold by the end of August at owner.racing.com.
Every horse nominated to VOBIS Gold also gets to race for their share of $24 million in VOBIS bonuses and prizemoney on offer each and every year.
The 1525 yearlings still in the Showdown race are by 47 different Victorian stallions who were signed up to VOBIS Sires by their stud farms (full table found here).
Woodside Park’s Written Tycoon has the most VOBIS Sires eligible yearlings with 110 followed by Toronado (98), Zoustar (94) and Reward for Effort (93).
Representation among next season’s first crop sires includes Darley’s Brazen Beau (with 62 eligible yearlings) then Puissance De Lune (38), Cluster (25) and Warhorse (24).
Burning Front’s sire Primus and Jubilee Stud sire Rock Face have the one possible entrant for The Showdown.
This coming season, a record 64 Victorian stallions have been signed up to VOBIS Sires giving broodmare owners plenty of choice as they seek to breed a future Showdown winner.
